Narrative:
While holding short of runway 8L, behind company aircraft, we were both instructed by tower to cross 8L and hold short of 4L on taxiway echo--so this we did. We had been waiting for a total of about 5-7 minutes, so I called the tower and asked where we (aircraft #1) feel into departure sequence. The tower responded with, '(aircraft #1), you are #4 behind your company (aircraft #3).' right after that the captain of the other company aircraft (aircraft #3) called our company on our company's arinc radio and said he would be another 5-10 mins or so before departure--so I had the brilliant idea to kid around with the crew in aircraft #3, and on the company frequency (like a total fool), I said '(name), you are clear for takeoff runway 22R.' the first officer in aircraft #3 of course not only recognized my voice, but also realized the obvious--that that was the reciprocal of the runway's in use. The wind had not shifted. There were 7 heavy aircraft holding short of the runway behind us. At the same time that I said that, the tower was transmitting on our other radio, clearing an medium large transport for takeoff on 8L. What I did was not frugal, not safe and downright stupid--but my biggest mistake was not thinking about who it was I was joking with. He called the feds and our chief pilot, and possibly (hopefully) will see how stupid what I did was, but how turning it into a public issue is not the best way to handle it.

Title: COMMUTER CAPT HOLDING FOR TKOF GIVES FALSE TKOF CLRNC TO COMPANY ACFT ON COMPANY FREQ.
Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 8L, BEHIND COMPANY ACFT, WE WERE BOTH INSTRUCTED BY TWR TO CROSS 8L AND HOLD SHORT OF 4L ON TXWY ECHO--SO THIS WE DID. WE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT 5-7 MINUTES, SO I CALLED THE TWR AND ASKED WHERE WE (ACFT #1) FEEL INTO DEP SEQUENCE. THE TWR RESPONDED WITH, '(ACFT #1), YOU ARE #4 BEHIND YOUR COMPANY (ACFT #3).' RIGHT AFTER THAT THE CAPT OF THE OTHER COMPANY ACFT (ACFT #3) CALLED OUR COMPANY ON OUR COMPANY'S ARINC RADIO AND SAID HE WOULD BE ANOTHER 5-10 MINS OR SO BEFORE DEP--SO I HAD THE BRILLIANT IDEA TO KID AROUND WITH THE CREW IN ACFT #3, AND ON THE COMPANY FREQ (LIKE A TOTAL FOOL), I SAID '(NAME), YOU ARE CLR FOR TKOF RWY 22R.' THE F/O IN ACFT #3 OF COURSE NOT ONLY RECOGNIZED MY VOICE,BUT ALSO REALIZED THE OBVIOUS--THAT THAT WAS THE RECIPROCAL OF THE RWY'S IN USE. THE WIND HAD NOT SHIFTED. THERE WERE 7 HVY ACFT HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY BEHIND US. AT THE SAME TIME THAT I SAID THAT, THE TWR WAS XMITTING ON OUR OTHER RADIO, CLRING AN MLG FOR TKOF ON 8L. WHAT I DID WAS NOT FRUGAL, NOT SAFE AND DOWNRIGHT STUPID--BUT MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS NOT THINKING ABOUT WHO IT WAS I WAS JOKING WITH. HE CALLED THE FEDS AND OUR CHIEF PLT, AND POSSIBLY (HOPEFULLY) WILL SEE HOW STUPID WHAT I DID WAS, BUT HOW TURNING IT INTO A PUBLIC ISSUE IS NOT THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE IT.
