Narrative:
VMC departure from lwn outside bos TCA but within 30 NM bos. On climbout 1500' contacted bos approach on 124.1 advised position, altitude and squawking 1200 requesting advisories to oxc. Aircraft equipped with dual mode C transponders which were operating norm on previous flight. Temperature was 4 degree F. Bos advised radar contact no mode C. I switched to #2 tx and bus again advised no mode C. I switched back to #1, still no mode C. I then was approximately 25 NM northwest of bos and turned away from bos until exiting 30 NM radius then proceeded on course. On next flight temperature 25 degree F both mode C operating norm.
