We were following a heavy aircraft (approximately eight-mile trail) into lax from the north. Approaching smo; at approximately 7500 ft MSL; hit substantial wake turbulence; causing 30 degrees of bank one way and then the other. Calm winds and slight offset got us out of wake. We had also gone through the wake with a substantial bump at approximately FL190 descending via the SADDE6 arrival.
