Narrative:

We were descending for landing into phl and were cleared to descend from cruise altitude to FL240. My copilot read back FL240 and I set it into the altitude alert at the same time. When we changed over to another sector on the next frequency. The new controller asked what altitude we were at. When we told him, he stated that the last controller 5 had cleared us to FL250, but it was ok. I believe we were at the altitude we were cleared to and either there was a mix-up between the 2 sectors, or the controller cleared us to the wrong altitude and did not hear or listen to our readback--probably the latter.

Title: CLRNC MISINTERP RESULTS IN EXCURSION FROM ASSIGNED ALT. ASSIGNING ARTCC RADAR CTLR DID NOT HEAR READBACK. ALERT CTLR IN NEXT SECTOR PICKED UP MISTAKE IN ALT.
