Narrative:
At orf (norfolk intersection) before sunrise, pushed back from south side of northernmost terminal and taxied straight east expecting to see a definite break between ramp and taxiway C. I almost entered runway 23-5 at taxiway G. (Ground control told us to hold before entering the runway.) clearance was taxi to runway 5. It appears that airport depiction on chart 11-1 orf dated 3/31/89 is incorrect, as it shows a break between ramp and taxiway C in the G taxiway area. In reality, I believe it is all filled in an all ramp from the terminal area to the northeast southwest parallel taxiway C.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR PLT CITES POSSIBILITY OF RWY INCRUSION DUE TO CHART PRESENTATION NOT MATCHING ARPT RAMP TXWY LAYOUT. LAIMS AREA BETWEEN RAMP AND TXWY WAS NOT OPEN SPACE, BUT APPARENTLY FILLED IN, THERBY ALLOWING ACFT TO INTERPRET OR MISIDENTIFY RWY AND THINK IT WAS THE TXWY CHARLIE.
Narrative: AT ORF (NORFOLK INTXN) BEFORE SUNRISE, PUSHED BACK FROM S SIDE OF NORTHERNMOST TERMINAL AND TAXIED STRAIGHT E EXPECTING TO SEE A DEFINITE BREAK BTWN RAMP AND TXWY C. I ALMOST ENTERED RWY 23-5 AT TXWY G. (GND CTL TOLD US TO HOLD BEFORE ENTERING THE RWY.) CLRNC WAS TAXI TO RWY 5. IT APPEARS THAT ARPT DEPICTION ON CHART 11-1 ORF DATED 3/31/89 IS INCORRECT, AS IT SHOWS A BREAK BTWN RAMP AND TXWY C IN THE G TXWY AREA. IN REALITY, I BELIEVE IT IS ALL FILLED IN AN ALL RAMP FROM THE TERMINAL AREA TO THE NE SW PARALLEL TXWY C.
