Narrative:
Proceeding to ewr, lost all 2-WAY with ZOB in vicinity of slate run on the slate run 6 arrival, page 10-2B of ewr. Attempts to troubleshoot communication equipment and radios failed, so we squawked radio failure code and started down the arrival corridor. By some stroke of luck we were able to establish radio contact with ZNY around williamsport VOR. We advised them of our problem, worked out a plan of action to use if we lost communications again, and proceeded to ewr via normal routing and landed uneventfully. They were very upset that we jammed up 3 or 4 of their radio frequencys and started down west/O radio contact. We were based in ewr, familiar with the arrival, had ewr ATIS. If radio contact was not established, we would have squawked emergency/radio failure, flown the arrival and executed the approach at ewr.
