Narrative:
I went for a pleasure flight in my small aircraft to cambridge, mn, when I throttled back the engine sounded a bit rough and I landed and taxied in. I left cambridge to fly back to crystal. The engine checked out good. I called crystal tower for landing and was cleared for 31. About 7 mi north of crystal I decided to retard the throttle to see if there was any roughness at closed throttle. The engine ran rough but this time it stopped running. I moved the throttle and restarted it again and pulled it back for another check and it stopped again. I knew I could make a straight in downwind landing so I slipped down and set it on 13. I couldn't call the tower because my left hand was on the wheel and my right hand was on the throttle clearing the engine in case I needed it. I was afraid to fly the pattern in case the engine lost power. The tower was disturbed because they didn't see me land until I started to clear the runway. I found a foreign substance in the right wing tank and showed it to GADO. Maintenance inspector told me what I should do to correct the problem.

Title: GA SMA CLEARED TO LAND ON RWY 31 LANDED ON RWY 13 BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AT REDUCED THROTTLE AND RWY 13 WAS ALMOST STRAIGHT IN.
Narrative: I WENT FOR A PLEASURE FLT IN MY SMA TO CAMBRIDGE, MN, WHEN I THROTTLED BACK THE ENGINE SOUNDED A BIT ROUGH AND I LANDED AND TAXIED IN. I LEFT CAMBRIDGE TO FLY BACK TO CRYSTAL. THE ENGINE CHECKED OUT GOOD. I CALLED CRYSTAL TWR FOR LNDG AND WAS CLRED FOR 31. ABOUT 7 MI N OF CRYSTAL I DECIDED TO RETARD THE THROTTLE TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY ROUGHNESS AT CLOSED THROTTLE. THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH BUT THIS TIME IT STOPPED RUNNING. I MOVED THE THROTTLE AND RESTARTED IT AGAIN AND PULLED IT BACK FOR ANOTHER CHECK AND IT STOPPED AGAIN. I KNEW I COULD MAKE A STRAIGHT IN DOWNWIND LNDG SO I SLIPPED DOWN AND SET IT ON 13. I COULDN'T CALL THE TWR BECAUSE MY LEFT HAND WAS ON THE WHEEL AND MY RIGHT HAND WAS ON THE THROTTLE CLEARING THE ENGINE IN CASE I NEEDED IT. I WAS AFRAID TO FLY THE PATTERN IN CASE THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE TWR WAS DISTURBED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T SEE ME LAND UNTIL I STARTED TO CLEAR THE RWY. I FOUND A FOREIGN SUBSTANCE IN THE RIGHT WING TANK AND SHOWED IT TO GADO. MAINT INSPECTOR TOLD ME WHAT I SHOULD DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
