Narrative:

Departed Q24 for Q34 VFR. Checked commercial airport facility directory prior to departure, determining airport 2 mi west. Once airborne, I verified airport location using WAC cg-19. Upon arrival called unicom for advisory, and was given winds and active as 19. Another aircraft announced traffic intentions for same runway. Other aircraft was closer, so I widened downwind for better spacing, resulting in a long final approach. Checked heading to verify proper runway and noticed an airplane at the hangar and a marking at the intersection. On short final, I concluded marking was a yellow 'X' on intersecting runway, not affecting landing runway. The landing runway threshold was partially obstructed by trees, causing me to focus on remaining runway during roundout and uneventful landing. Entire airport was closed, with landing runway 20 having yellow 'X's' on both #'south and intersection. Deplaned passenger to greet awaiting passenger, only to learn that the awaiting passenger was probably at the new airport, which was approximately 2 mi southwest, with runway 19. Other aircraft in pattern lulled me into thinking that the visually acquired airport was genuine. A closer downwind might have provided sufficient perspective to see yellow 'X's' and the new airport. WAC ground control 19 still showed old airport as only airport and operational. Unicom should announce an alert. (Cannon AFB approach control did on the return leg that day.) NOTAM alerting arriving pilots of closed airport.

Title: CPR SMT LANDS AT CLOSED ARPT, UNAWARE THAT NEW ARPT HAD BEEN OPENED 2-3 MILES SOUTHWEST OF OLD ARPT.

Narrative: DEPARTED Q24 FOR Q34 VFR. CHKED COMMERCIAL ARPT FAC DIRECTORY PRIOR TO DEP, DETERMINING ARPT 2 MI W. ONCE AIRBORNE, I VERIFIED ARPT LOCATION USING WAC CG-19. UPON ARR CALLED UNICOM FOR ADVISORY, AND WAS GIVEN WINDS AND ACTIVE AS 19. ANOTHER ACFT ANNOUNCED TFC INTENTIONS FOR SAME RWY. OTHER ACFT WAS CLOSER, SO I WIDENED DOWNWIND FOR BETTER SPACING, RESULTING IN A LONG FINAL APCH. CHKED HDG TO VERIFY PROPER RWY AND NOTICED AN AIRPLANE AT THE HANGAR AND A MARKING AT THE INTXN. ON SHORT FINAL, I CONCLUDED MARKING WAS A YELLOW 'X' ON INTERSECTING RWY, NOT AFFECTING LNDG RWY. THE LNDG RWY THRESHOLD WAS PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTED BY TREES, CAUSING ME TO FOCUS ON REMAINING RWY DURING ROUNDOUT AND UNEVENTFUL LNDG. ENTIRE ARPT WAS CLOSED, WITH LNDG RWY 20 HAVING YELLOW 'X'S' ON BOTH #'S AND INTXN. DEPLANED PAX TO GREET AWAITING PAX, ONLY TO LEARN THAT THE AWAITING PAX WAS PROBABLY AT THE NEW ARPT, WHICH WAS APPROX 2 MI SW, WITH RWY 19. OTHER ACFT IN PATTERN LULLED ME INTO THINKING THAT THE VISUALLY ACQUIRED ARPT WAS GENUINE. A CLOSER DOWNWIND MIGHT HAVE PROVIDED SUFFICIENT PERSPECTIVE TO SEE YELLOW 'X'S' AND THE NEW ARPT. WAC GC 19 STILL SHOWED OLD ARPT AS ONLY ARPT AND OPERATIONAL. UNICOM SHOULD ANNOUNCE AN ALERT. (CANNON AFB APCH CTL DID ON THE RETURN LEG THAT DAY.) NOTAM ALERTING ARRIVING PLTS OF CLOSED ARPT.
