Narrative:
We climbed to our final altitude of FL250 and leveled off. Sometime after level off we noted a faint smell of smoke in the cockpit. We were then called by the flight attendant who informed us there was smoke in the cabin. We executed our emergency procedures which included donning our oxygen masks and decided to divert to [a nearby alternate]. I [advised] ATC and informed them of our intentions. Further contact with the flight attendant informed us that he couldn't locate the source of the smoke and that it was subsiding. We kept our O2 masks on and executed a normal landing and taxied to the gate where ramp personnel promptly parked us and we deplaned without incident. After deplaning I entered the discrepancy in the aml (aircraft maintenance log). We the secured the aircraft.
