Narrative:
Positioned north of airport and heading approximately 230 degree, on approach to anc for 6R. Controller asked if we could accept visual to 6R. We accepted and were told to descend to 4000' (on current heading) and to report runway in sight. I called runway in sight out of 5000' while approaching 4000', however, the radio call was delayed due to another transmission from approach. Continuing descent, at about 3300', we told approach we had the runway as the frequency became clear. The controller advised maintain 4000' climb back to 4000' which we did. It became known to me then that we had not been cleared for the visual as I had thought. Supplemental information from acn 133419: anc approach said 'cleared to 4000 expect visual, report runway in sight.' I called out 4000 as I could see we had a sink rate. At 3800' captain had gear down, flaps 5 degree and a sink rate, and I said, 'we're cleared to 4000'.' anc approach said I show you at 3800', check altimeter 29.69 you have traffic at 3000'. We continued descent to 3500'. I told captain, 'we're at 3500', we have traffic at 3000, we're cleared to 4000'.' he said, 'tell them we have the runway in sight for a visual.' when I told controller we had runway in sight, he said, 'you have traffic at 3000', climb immediately to 4000'.' I said, 'we're at 3300' climbing to 4000'.' we then climbed to 4000' and had a normal approach and landing.

Title: FLT CREW OF WDB ON APCH CLEARED EXPECT VISUAL. STARTED DESCENT WHEN VISUAL AND RWY IN SIGHT.
Narrative: POSITIONED N OF ARPT AND HDG APPROX 230 DEG, ON APCH TO ANC FOR 6R. CTLR ASKED IF WE COULD ACCEPT VISUAL TO 6R. WE ACCEPTED AND WERE TOLD TO DSND TO 4000' (ON CURRENT HDG) AND TO REPORT RWY IN SIGHT. I CALLED RWY IN SIGHT OUT OF 5000' WHILE APCHING 4000', HOWEVER, THE RADIO CALL WAS DELAYED DUE TO ANOTHER XMISSION FROM APCH. CONTINUING DSCNT, AT ABOUT 3300', WE TOLD APCH WE HAD THE RWY AS THE FREQ BECAME CLEAR. THE CTLR ADVISED MAINTAIN 4000' CLIMB BACK TO 4000' WHICH WE DID. IT BECAME KNOWN TO ME THEN THAT WE HAD NOT BEEN CLRED FOR THE VISUAL AS I HAD THOUGHT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 133419: ANC APCH SAID 'CLRED TO 4000 EXPECT VISUAL, REPORT RWY IN SIGHT.' I CALLED OUT 4000 AS I COULD SEE WE HAD A SINK RATE. AT 3800' CAPT HAD GEAR DOWN, FLAPS 5 DEG AND A SINK RATE, AND I SAID, 'WE'RE CLRED TO 4000'.' ANC APCH SAID I SHOW YOU AT 3800', CHECK ALTIMETER 29.69 YOU HAVE TFC AT 3000'. WE CONTINUED DSCNT TO 3500'. I TOLD CAPT, 'WE'RE AT 3500', WE HAVE TFC AT 3000, WE'RE CLRED TO 4000'.' HE SAID, 'TELL THEM WE HAVE THE RWY IN SIGHT FOR A VISUAL.' WHEN I TOLD CTLR WE HAD RWY IN SIGHT, HE SAID, 'YOU HAVE TFC AT 3000', CLIMB IMMEDIATELY TO 4000'.' I SAID, 'WE'RE AT 3300' CLIMBING TO 4000'.' WE THEN CLIMBED TO 4000' AND HAD A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG.
