Narrative:
On final approach there were 3 aircraft in approach reported by the tower, not in sight, during the time I would normally be cranking down the nose gear and was trying to locate the other traffic. With this distraction, I touched down on the main gear which did not damage homebuilt small aircraft, only sliding on an aluminum skid under the nose.

Title: SMA PLT LOOKING FOR 3 ACFT IN TRAFFIC PATTERN DID NOT CRANK DOWN NOSE GEAR. LANDED, SLIDING ON NOSE SKID.
Narrative: ON FINAL APCH THERE WERE 3 ACFT IN APCH REPORTED BY THE TWR, NOT IN SIGHT, DURING THE TIME I WOULD NORMALLY BE CRANKING DOWN THE NOSE GEAR AND WAS TRYING TO LOCATE THE OTHER TFC. WITH THIS DISTR, I TOUCHED DOWN ON THE MAIN GEAR WHICH DID NOT DAMAGE HOMEBUILT SMA, ONLY SLIDING ON AN ALUMINUM SKID UNDER THE NOSE.
