Narrative:
IFR flight plan filed to depart airport which has no tower. At approximately departure time I taxied out and was able to raise TRACON on radio, but they wanted me on another frequency. Could not raise the other frequency, so had to shut down and contact ATC by phone. I finally got a departure time window requiring that I get airborne between XA55 and XB00. I acknowledged the departure window, manned my airplane, and waited for my departure time. My wife was with me and as my watch hit XA51 I decided that it was time to go. When airborne I was chastised for departing early. Only then did I realize that I had transposed my departure block by 5 mins. My wife had realized this, but assumed that I knew that I was early. The whole thing would have been avoided if I could have maintained communications with departure while sitting on the airport surface.
