Narrative:

I was the pilot monitoring. Departing on the CONNR3 SID. Approximate position was hurdl fix at approximately 9;000 feet. We experienced a very bright flash from our right (north). Within a few seconds my right eye started a burning; achy type of sensation. I was not looking directly at the source but it was more of a glancing blow. I thought the eye ache would quickly dissipate like in a camera flash event. I was still able to see and focus to perform duties. I reported the illumination to ATC. We completed the flight but unfortunately the eye irritation was still present.
