Narrative:
While still some distance from the runway, we were cleared for takeoff, traffic 5 1/2 mi out on runway 4R and to call rolling. It took some time to get on the runway (09) and get aligned. Checklists were completed and I called rolling for takeoff. As I made the call the captain released brakes and started to advance power. As I released the microphone tower was talking to another aircraft. The captain applied brakes and returned power to idle. The aircraft had just started moving when the brakes were applied. Some more time went by while tower talked to other aircraft. When the frequency cleared, I again called and said that we'd be rolling for takeoff. Tower said to cancel takeoff clearance which we acknowledged. Tower then asked if we would need to taxi back, and we said no as we had only moved a few feet during the initial rolling call. After traffic landing on runway 4R cleared our runway, a second takeoff clearance was issued, and an uneventful takeoff was completed. If we had continued takeoff on the first call, it would have been close at the intersection. Supplemental information from acn 135056: I instructed the first officer to report to the tower that we were rolling. I heard some undecipherable chatter on tower frequency and then heard an aircraft being given a clearance to land on runway 4R. I closed the throttles and stopped the aircraft. We had only moved 10 or 15 feet. My first officer wanted to know what was wrong, since we had been given clearance for takeoff and had complied with the 'rolling' call. I replied that something was wrong, that runway 4R intersects our runway 9, and that maybe tower had forgotten all about us.

Title: ACR CLEARED FOR TKOF STARTS TKOF ROLL, THEN ABORTS BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC LNDG ON INTERSECTING RWY.
Narrative: WHILE STILL SOME DISTANCE FROM THE RWY, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, TFC 5 1/2 MI OUT ON RWY 4R AND TO CALL ROLLING. IT TOOK SOME TIME TO GET ON THE RWY (09) AND GET ALIGNED. CHECKLISTS WERE COMPLETED AND I CALLED ROLLING FOR TKOF. AS I MADE THE CALL THE CAPT RELEASED BRAKES AND STARTED TO ADVANCE POWER. AS I RELEASED THE MICROPHONE TWR WAS TALKING TO ANOTHER ACFT. THE CAPT APPLIED BRAKES AND RETURNED POWER TO IDLE. THE ACFT HAD JUST STARTED MOVING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. SOME MORE TIME WENT BY WHILE TWR TALKED TO OTHER ACFT. WHEN THE FREQ CLRED, I AGAIN CALLED AND SAID THAT WE'D BE ROLLING FOR TKOF. TWR SAID TO CANCEL TKOF CLRNC WHICH WE ACKNOWLEDGED. TWR THEN ASKED IF WE WOULD NEED TO TAXI BACK, AND WE SAID NO AS WE HAD ONLY MOVED A FEW FEET DURING THE INITIAL ROLLING CALL. AFTER TFC LNDG ON RWY 4R CLRED OUR RWY, A SECOND TKOF CLRNC WAS ISSUED, AND AN UNEVENTFUL TKOF WAS COMPLETED. IF WE HAD CONTINUED TKOF ON THE FIRST CALL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE AT THE INTXN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 135056: I INSTRUCTED THE F/O TO REPORT TO THE TWR THAT WE WERE ROLLING. I HEARD SOME UNDECIPHERABLE CHATTER ON TWR FREQ AND THEN HEARD AN ACFT BEING GIVEN A CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 4R. I CLOSED THE THROTTLES AND STOPPED THE ACFT. WE HAD ONLY MOVED 10 OR 15 FEET. MY F/O WANTED TO KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG, SINCE WE HAD BEEN GIVEN CLRNC FOR TKOF AND HAD COMPLIED WITH THE 'ROLLING' CALL. I REPLIED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG, THAT RWY 4R INTERSECTS OUR RWY 9, AND THAT MAYBE TWR HAD FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT US.
