Narrative:
While at 35,000' en route to ord, on ZID (radio frequency 134.27), center called and said 'air carrier flight X, start descent to 280 for traffic.' we started down at 1000 FPM and within a minute or so ZID came back with 'air carrier flight X make an immediate turn left to 250 and descend to 310, I told you to slow to 280.' we had read back the center clearance as stated.
