Narrative:
Upon approach to lse the F.O. (First officer) was cleared for a visual approach 10 miles west of the airport at 2800 ft AGL. The F.O. Made a wide (8 mile) left downwind for runway 36 and attempted to make an immediate descent to 1500 ft AGL. I told him not to descend we were too far out but that we needed to slow down. While I was looking for traffic and talking to tower the F.O. Started an immediate descent to 1500 ft AGL. When I told him to stop the descent I noticed a group of towers ahead of us. I took the controls and initiated a climb but it was too late. We received an alert from the egpws for an obstacle and to climb. Once clear of the towers I landed uneventfully.
