Narrative:
Overflew airport. Identified active runway by reference to wind sock. Landed appropriate runway (1700' gravel). Runway conditions packed snow over gravel, recently plowed. Temperatures 33 degree F. First above freezing day in several weeks. After touchdown within 100' of threshold braking applied. When it became apparent that braking action not sufficient to stop aircraft, insufficient runway remained for go around. Pulled mixture at left opposite end of runway, engine dead. Propeller bent, nose gear collapsed, no structural damage or injury. Recent temperatures above freezing created glazed ice. Braking action nil. Used short field approach. Landed full flaps at 76 indicated. Believe airport should have been properly closed if qualified persons had been available to make evaluation prior to use that day.

Title: ATX SMA LNDG ON SHORT ICY RWY AT KWETHLUK, AK EXPERIENCES RWY EXCURSION.
Narrative: OVERFLEW ARPT. IDENTIFIED ACTIVE RWY BY REFERENCE TO WIND SOCK. LANDED APPROPRIATE RWY (1700' GRAVEL). RWY CONDITIONS PACKED SNOW OVER GRAVEL, RECENTLY PLOWED. TEMPERATURES 33 DEG F. FIRST ABOVE FREEZING DAY IN SEVERAL WEEKS. AFTER TOUCHDOWN WITHIN 100' OF THRESHOLD BRAKING APPLIED. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT BRAKING ACTION NOT SUFFICIENT TO STOP ACFT, INSUFFICIENT RWY REMAINED FOR GO AROUND. PULLED MIXTURE AT LEFT OPPOSITE END OF RWY, ENGINE DEAD. PROPELLER BENT, NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED, NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE OR INJURY. RECENT TEMPERATURES ABOVE FREEZING CREATED GLAZED ICE. BRAKING ACTION NIL. USED SHORT FIELD APCH. LANDED FULL FLAPS AT 76 INDICATED. BELIEVE ARPT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROPERLY CLOSED IF QUALIFIED PERSONS HAD BEEN AVAILABLE TO MAKE EVALUATION PRIOR TO USE THAT DAY.
