Narrative:
In the descent into ZZZZ the weather started to become a concern at the airport as they reported thunderstorms in the vicinity and radar depicting the same. I sent an ACARS message to dispatch asking what their radar was showing and they were not seeing very much. The tower reported good visibility and light winds but suggested a vector to the final approach fix for runway xx due to weather further to the west; we accepted the vector. As we joined the final approach with autopilot engaged and autothrottles engaged we flew into heavy rain; glideslope went full deflection high; airspeed dropper from 145 kts to approximately 125 kts; we got an 'airspeed low' aural warning and momentary stick shaker. The first officer executed a missed approach. On the missed approach ATC reported good weather conditions to the east and improving conditions to the west. We had enough fuel for one more approach before diverting; we requested vectors for the VOR approach to runway yy and landed uneventfully in visual conditions.
