Narrative:
On climb out of miami international en route to naples, fl (apf) captain was flying and we were assigned 8000' (I believe) it may have been plus or minus 1000' because we flew about 8 legs that day and I lost track. We were going in and out of and around cumulus buildups, (the captain was trying to give the passenger a good ride and keep them from getting sick). Approaching 500' below assigned altitude I gave captain standard company (500' to go) call, he said 'thank-you'. As we were approaching assigned altitude I noticed the climb rate was not decreasing so I said check your altitude, he said, 'I got it'. Passing 100' to 200' above I said again louder watch your altitude and repeated and than grabbed the control column and pushed forward, all the while he said, 'I know we are almost over the top here'. That's when I noticed the peak altitude of 500' above assigned and we cleared the top of a buildup and he finally relaxed back pressure and we returned to assigned altitude. In my opinion the captain was too concerned with passenger comfort and got carried away with a little cheating on headings and altitudes. I don't feel that I should be penalized for this event because I made my required callouts and was physically battling the captain to get the airplane to assigned altitude. I am meeting with the base manager to discuss this event and I am sure she will take necessary action to prevent it from happening in the future.
