Narrative:
As we accelerated for takeoff the aircraft seemed slightly sluggish. I called V1 and rotate and the first officer rotated and we took off. As we were in the initial climb phase I noticed that climb-2 was our power setting. We selected takeoff again and continued our climbout. The rest of the trip was uneventful. This is a recurring issue with the 777. At some point in the performance loading; the climb power will occasionally go to the derated mode. The first officer did not catch it on the before takeoff checklist; and the relief pilot and I both missed it on the takeoff roll. Had this been a heavier airplane or a shorter runway we could have really had a worse outcome.
