Narrative:
Approaching goodyear airport on the gap arrival maintaining 2;000 feet; we were cleared to enter the right hand pattern via a midfield crossing runway 21. We maintained 2;000 feet with 95 knots and made the midfield crossing. When we crossed runway 21 overhead and midfield there was traffic closing from our right side; which just did a go-around for runway 21. At the time the aircraft was in sight; they already were in a descending left turn to maneuver away from us. Due to the fact that the aircraft reported a go-around directly after they did and we exactly followed the instructions of ATC; the best suggestion for avoiding recurrence of this event is to provide better separation by ATC.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: Two student pilots reported taking evasive action during a go-around to avoid each other in the pattern. The instructor took control of the aircraft to more aggressively increase the separation between the two planes.
