While climbing out following departure from shv; pilot climbed through altitude clearance of 7;000 feet. Discovered when reaching 8;300 feet. Had begun corrective action when ATC called to confirm altitude. Pilot was trouble-shooting nex-rad data depiction error and climbed through altitude.
