Narrative:
Small aircraft aircraft making simulated emergency landing with myself and student aboard. Aircraft landed at midfield, aircraft was then restarted and taken off with 1500' of available runway left. FAA official, after seeing the event said I was operating carelessly. He said that failing an engine in the pattern of an airport was creating an emergency. He also said that I didn't stop and use a checklist before departing.
