Narrative:
During preflight at the gate we have a relatively new procedure for acquiring our ATC pre-departure clearance (pre departure clearance). This new procedure requires a logon by cpdlc to sfo to receive our pre departure clearance. Once logged on; the pre departure clearance is not requested but pushed to the aircraft. This can be sent immediately; take a few minutes up to 30; or never be sent. In our case it was never sent.the preflight [has] many requirements for the pilots in the cockpit. The relief pilots have other duties inside and outside the cockpit. During the preflight I was aware that we logged on by cpdlc to sfo but left the cockpit shortly after coordinating with maintenance and flight attendants.upon pushback and taxi out no pilot had realized that we did not receive our pre departure clearance. It was not until after we took off did norcal departure told us to reset our squawk that we realized we never received it. Shortly after; we were sent to oak center. We inquired what our clearance was and it was exactly as loaded/expected from preflight. However; we did not receive the pre departure clearance from cpdlc.

Title: International flight crew reported that they departed SFO without ever actually receiving a PDC via CPDLC. Although the flight had logged on to SFO CPDLC the clearance was never received in the aircraft. The crew discovered the oversight when ATC questioned their transponder code.
