Narrative:
While in the climbout of O'hare and near the end of the 5 minute timer for flex thrust; left pack temp caution became illuminated. It became illuminated at least 4 other times during the climbout of our flight. I remember having my hands on the thrust levers; to retard them to the climb detent. At that time; the left pack temp caution became illuminated and distracted us from the after takeoff flow and checklist. Not noticing the timer exceed 5 minutes; I handed over control of the aircraft to the first officer/pilot monitoring (pm) and swapped positions with the flight attendant. I used the lavatory and returned. After sitting in my seat; I noticed the landing lights on; followed by the thrust reversers still armed. I looked at ED1 and noticed flx and the thrust levers in take off go around (toga) detent. I reduced the thrust levers to climb power and climb detent. After landing and parking; I called moc to see if there were any engine parameters exceeded. After concurring there were none; we shut down the aircraft; then proceeded to write this report. Upon climbout; the left pack temp became illuminated; during the normal after takeoff flow and checklist time. This combined with the captain needing to use the lavatory; caused numerous distractions. We had one frequency change in that time period as well. Human error due to multiple distractions at once caused the error. Had I not needed to use the lavatory; there would have been less distraction to focus on the aircraft configuration.

Title: CRJ-700 flight crew reported forgetting to retard the thrust levers to climb after a flex takeoff due to distractions from a left pack temp caution and the Captain having a pressing need to use the lavatory. The oversight was detected upon return to the flight deck. Apparently no limits were exceeded.
