Narrative:
During my first day out on the new aircraft, on my fourth flight of the day on 2/wed/90 at PM00, I was the captain on flight with a check pilot in the first officer's seat. I was cleared into position and hold at btv on runway 33. While I was taxiing I had to back-taxi and then turn completely around. While we were taxiing another aircraft on runway 1 was cleared for takeoff or touch and go (I was not sure). However, my attention was on taxiing the aircraft and turning the aircraft around. When we got turned around the check pilot said we were cleared for takeoff. I told him I thought it was position and hold. He said no, cleared for takeoff. I asked him 3 times. He then yelled and said, 'let's go (name)!' as I started the takeoff roll I looked to my left and saw an small aircraft. At 80 KTS I aborted. As I closed the throttles the tower said 'air carrier flight X, cancel your takeoff clearance.' I then did a 180 degree turn and taxied back. While taxiing back tower said 'you were cleared into position and hold, not for takeoff.' I then looked at the check pilot and he said I was wrong!!!

WHILE WE WERE TAXIING ANOTHER ACFT ON RWY 1 WAS CLRED FOR TKOF OR TOUCH AND GO (I WAS NOT SURE). HOWEVER, MY ATTN WAS ON TAXIING THE ACFT AND TURNING THE ACFT AROUND. WHEN WE GOT TURNED AROUND THE CHK PLT SAID WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I TOLD HIM I THOUGHT IT WAS POS AND HOLD. HE SAID NO, CLRED FOR TKOF. I ASKED HIM 3 TIMES.
