Narrative:
As we were leaving ZZZ airport everything was going good with light rain but visibility was good and ceiling was marginal. Turbulence was light to moderate at times and getting better the more we were flying toward fsd. We were talking to minneapolis center all the way over to fsd. Upon arrival into the terminal area; minneapolis center told us that the 'strip' they get from fsd approach control; when they closed at midnight; said that the runway 3/21 was closed; but the notams we received from for-flight and flight-plan briefing that only 09/27 and 15/33 were notamed closed. Minneapolis center believed it to be a typo and said that they could clear us for the visual approach. Minneapolis center also said we could land on a closed runway if we could do it in a safe way. We had the airport in site and minneapolis center cleared us for a visual approach. We elected to overfly the intended runway (runway 03) and visually scan the area and runway. We did so; runway lights were all the way on bright; and saw no hazards and enter the traffic pattern for runway 03 and landed uneventfully. The problem was the strip minneapolis center got from sioux falls approach control that they said runway 03/21 was closed. Minneapolis supervisor was trying to get a hold of someone but no one answered. One of the things we could have done before we left was check weather again and call flight service on the phone and check notams with them. We did pickup our clearance leaving ZZZ with huron flight service and they mention nothing about it also.our judgments were affected by the thunderstorm in the area and the moderate rain that started coming down in ZZZ when we were loading up to come home. To prevent this from happening again is to slow down and at the next pilot meeting; is to sit down with all the pilots and discussed the actions what went on and what to change and/or add in our general operations manual manually.
