Narrative:

We shut down the right engine while the engine was in idle reverse and the reverser did not stow correctly. We did not receive an ECAM message untill after both engines were shut down at the gate. I had the copilot go down and clear the area and then call me on the phone when the area was clear. Once clear; I started the engine to about 30 percent; the reverser stowed correctly and I shut off the engine.all conditions normal. I think we did everything correctly and ensured the safety of all involved. In the future I would call maintenance first and just ensure they were involved.

Title: A320 flight crew reported they chose; in response to a reverser that failed to stow upon gate arrival; to motor the engine to facilitate stowing the reverser.
