Narrative:
Both I and the piper aircraft were inbound for hnl. Tower gave me clearance to land on the ramp while the piper was descending for their landing. Tower told me that the piper had visual contact with me as I looked up to see them descending into my path at an angle that led me to believe they did not have visual contact with me. We would not have impacted; but I increased my rate of descent to widen the distance between us because we were uncomfortably close.
