Narrative:
The first officer was flying and we were departing runway 5, given left turn to 320 degree, then as soon as turn began 'left on course', he (first officer) intercepted the 012 degree radial instead of the 192. The controller aided his error (confusion) by sort of 'setting him up' for it, but he tracked north for 10 or 50 mi instead of south and none of us caught it.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR-LGT DEVIATE FROM CLRNC ROUTE. FO INTERCEPTED WRONG RADIAL AND FLEW 180 TO THE DESIRED TRACK.
Narrative: THE F/O WAS FLYING AND WE WERE DEPARTING RWY 5, GIVEN L TURN TO 320 DEG, THEN AS SOON AS TURN BEGAN 'L ON COURSE', HE (F/O) INTERCEPTED THE 012 DEG RADIAL INSTEAD OF THE 192. THE CTLR AIDED HIS ERROR (CONFUSION) BY SORT OF 'SETTING HIM UP' FOR IT, BUT HE TRACKED N FOR 10 OR 50 MI INSTEAD OF S AND NONE OF US CAUGHT IT.
