Narrative:
As I was approaching the airport from the east I heard a helicopter report that he was departing from the northeast. It was during the time I was doing my gumps check and got distracted looking for the helicopter. I finally spotted the helicopter as I was entering a crosswind for runway 35. It was during this time that I missed the gear part of the gumps check. I did not realize it until I touched down with the gear up. After thinking about what had happened I realize that distractions can cause a pilot to miss going through their checklist. I have learned that from this day forward I will not let distractions keep me from doing the things I need to be doing with the aircraft I am flying.
