Narrative:
I was in the back taking crew rest. First officer and rfo advised me that the aircraft inadvertently entered a thunderstorm due to faulty radar scan and experienced stick shaker for approximately 5 seconds at FL380 and gross weight of 413;000 pounds. Subsequent radar confidence check showed ground return on left and nothing on right. Properly functioning equipment and increased vigilance.
