Narrative:
We were cleared to taxi through pad to 22L and cleared for takeoff. As we put the power forward we were told to cancel takeoff clearance. We pulled the power back well before 80 KTS. Exited the runway; complied with break temperature monitor system (btms) procedures and write up.cleared for takeoff prior to being through the pad. Another aircraft was off our left side coming in for approach.ATC not clear aircraft for takeoff through the pad on 22L when other aircraft are executing approach and coming in for landing off the left hand side of the aircraft.

Title: Flight crew reported ORD Tower canceling their takeoff clearance around 80 KTS after expediting their taxi through the 22L pad. The brake cooling procedures were followed.
