Narrative:
The passenger came early ready for departure. Calling clearance delivery I found there was no flight plan in the system at all. Controller put it on request. When he got it he said he'd have to resubmit it because as it was filed it skirted too close to a MOA in operation. I taxied out while he did the proper work. Then I found that the radio shop had worked on the aircraft during lunch and numerous breakers were pulled and things turned off and switched around. During this rather complicated preflight the controller called with the clearance. Not liking to have my checklist interrupted I hurriedly copied the clearance. On departure climbing through 6000 departure called to ask what altitude I was climbing to. I verified out of 6000 for 7000. Departure said 'roger maintain 7000'. Only after I leveled off and looked down at the clearance did I see M5000.... Oh well! Long day and numerous distractions will get you every time. At about 4000 I thought that I should verify the altitude but, naw, I'm a pro. Ha ha.
