Narrative:
We were shooting the ILS 13 into jln and had to go missed because we were not receive a G/south indication on our receiver. At the time we were experiencing light to moderate turbulence and moderate rain showers. All at once we encountered a severe updraft that pushed us up from our 3000' assigned altitude to 3800'. I retarded the power levers to flight idle and nosed the aircraft over to about 15 degrees nose down in order to stop the climb. At about 3800' the climb had been stopped. The vsi during this time pegged out at 6000 FPM climb. We reported to center that we had hit a updraft and asked for vectors away from the area until we could have another try at the approach. After we were at 3800' we descended back down to 3000', but with the turbulence we were +/-300' until we were vectored into the clear. I have never encountered turbulence of this magnitude before.
