Narrative:
Clt ATC has been very poor. The worst it's been in 30 years. I was on approach to runway 18R. It was a beautiful VFR day; approach control put an aircraft in front of us. We were already at minimum fully configured airspeed. It was the first officer's leg. We could see the aircraft in front of us 'south' turning in order to achieve the appropriate profile. Upon touchdown the tower told the aircraft 'expedite; hurry to first available turn off.' the aircraft replied 'we're not gonna make the first turnoff.' tower issued a go around to us. We did so.clt ATC nearly did it to us again. We were vectored to base leg too soon. I was so busy with checklists and the FMC that I failed to refuse the quick turn on. ATC put another aircraft in front of us too close. We were asked to south turn. We landed no problems. Clt ATC needs to be overhauled. Go-arounds scare passengers and flight attendants not to mention what it costs the company! Every week at clt I witness a go around event. I have submitted asaps on this type of stuff many times. Things don't improve. Their practice of 'expedite'; 'best speed'; 'no delay'; '180 knots until the marker'; etc.; is contrary to safety. I could go on and on.
