Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff our #2 generator dropped offline followed by an oil lvl low IDG2 ECAM message. We completed the ECAM requirements resulting in the disconnection of the #2 idg and the disabling of the #2 generator. Prior to pushback; but after the before start 'flow'/checklist; one of two center tank fuel pumps failed and the subsequently MEL'd by maintenance. There were other issues with this aircraft including an autopilot aircraft speed set control that cycled between 'managed airspeed' and (pilot) selected airspeed without pilot input. While all busses were powered by generator #1 and the APU generator; and with coordination with the dispatcher; operations and maintenance; I elected to return for an overweight landing. It was/is my belief that the safest course of action was to return for maintenance and repair of the idg/generator.
