Narrative:
VFR flight from 1n9 to abe to drop off a passenger. When I was ready to taxi to the active to return to 1n9 I contacted ground to get a clearance to taxi. Ground advised me to contact clearance delivery. I then contacted clearance delivery and was given a squawk code. I should then have contacted ground for clearance, but I did not. (This was something I was never instructed to do by my instrument). When I contacted the tower for clearance to takeoff. The tower informed me I had a clearance to taxi, but I did not acknowledge them because I was still on clearance delivery frequency. There really wasn't a problem. I think I had more of a problem with it then ground control did, only because I made the mistake and should have known to turn back to ground control to acknowledge the clearance to taxi. You better believe I know it now! I feel that if clearance delivery had instructed me to return to ground control, this would not have taken place. Although it still boils down to the fact that I should have known what to do and the proper procedure for departing an airport in an arsa. When I returned to 1n9 I sat with my instrument for an hour and learned what I should have learned before I got my private!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LOW TIME PVT PLT HAS A FEW PROBLEMS WITH STANDARD ARSA DEP PROCS AT ABE.
Narrative: VFR FLT FROM 1N9 TO ABE TO DROP OFF A PAX. WHEN I WAS READY TO TAXI TO THE ACTIVE TO RETURN TO 1N9 I CONTACTED GND TO GET A CLRNC TO TAXI. GND ADVISED ME TO CONTACT CLRNC DELIVERY. I THEN CONTACTED CLRNC DELIVERY AND WAS GIVEN A SQUAWK CODE. I SHOULD THEN HAVE CONTACTED GND FOR CLRNC, BUT I DID NOT. (THIS WAS SOMETHING I WAS NEVER INSTRUCTED TO DO BY MY INSTR). WHEN I CONTACTED THE TWR FOR CLRNC TO TKOF. THE TWR INFORMED ME I HAD A CLRNC TO TAXI, BUT I DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THEM BECAUSE I WAS STILL ON CLRNC DELIVERY FREQ. THERE REALLY WASN'T A PROB. I THINK I HAD MORE OF A PROB WITH IT THEN GND CTL DID, ONLY BECAUSE I MADE THE MISTAKE AND SHOULD HAVE KNOWN TO TURN BACK TO GND CTL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE CLRNC TO TAXI. YOU BETTER BELIEVE I KNOW IT NOW! I FEEL THAT IF CLRNC DELIVERY HAD INSTRUCTED ME TO RETURN TO GND CTL, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN PLACE. ALTHOUGH IT STILL BOILS DOWN TO THE FACT THAT I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO AND THE PROPER PROC FOR DEPARTING AN ARPT IN AN ARSA. WHEN I RETURNED TO 1N9 I SAT WITH MY INSTR FOR AN HR AND LEARNED WHAT I SHOULD HAVE LEARNED BEFORE I GOT MY PVT!
