Narrative:
[Shortly after takeoff] we experienced a left engine failure. The left engine failed around gear retraction with a loud bang and grinding noise. Itt redlined at 800 degrees. We continued to climb out to our flap retraction altitude. We leveled off at 2700 and ran the proper emergency checklist. We called ATC and took a vector towards [a nearby alternate]. We finished all checklists and briefed the ILS single engine approach. We landed with no issues and taxied the aircraft on the ramp. Total flight was 12 minutes.
