Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff; my copilot (the pilot flying); brought the throttles slowly up to takeoff power. At full throttle; the left engine surged to 42 inches manifold pressure; then dropped to 37; causing the plane to yaw; and directional control difficult to maintain. I took controls and made the decision to abort the takeoff; bringing the throttles to idle; slowing down and taxiing off the runway uneventfully.
