Narrative:
Inadvertently used 123.45 MHZ for air-to-air communications with another aircraft. Thought appropriate frequency until told otherwise. Need for better understanding of frequencys which can or cannot be used for air-to-air communications. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter stated that frequency used, 123.45, was reserved for missile research by a southern california firm. He also said that he was on an IFR flight plan rather than VFR as shown on his report.
