Narrative:

First flight with this inexperienced copilot, thus I was flying and handling radios during IMC approach, with radar vectors to ILS 8R at den. I inadvertently changed radio frequency to tower in expectation of frequency change, but through force of habit I also changed transmitter switch, thus taking me off approach control frequency. I realized my error as I flew thru the localizer just as den tower called me on his frequency and told me to go back to approach frequency. Approach controller then gave me an immediate vector back around for the ILS. I was distracted by the WX (icing was moderate rime), handling the full workload and showing new copilot our approach procedures.

Title: CORPORATE ACFT CAPT SHOWING THE ROPES TO A NEW COPLT EXPERIENCES FINGER TROUBLE AND TUNES TWR FREQ WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: FIRST FLT WITH THIS INEXPERIENCED COPLT, THUS I WAS FLYING AND HANDLING RADIOS DURING IMC APCH, WITH RADAR VECTORS TO ILS 8R AT DEN. I INADVERTENTLY CHANGED RADIO FREQ TO TWR IN EXPECTATION OF FREQ CHANGE, BUT THROUGH FORCE OF HABIT I ALSO CHANGED XMITTER SWITCH, THUS TAKING ME OFF APCH CTL FREQ. I REALIZED MY ERROR AS I FLEW THRU THE LOC JUST AS DEN TWR CALLED ME ON HIS FREQ AND TOLD ME TO GO BACK TO APCH FREQ. APCH CTLR THEN GAVE ME AN IMMEDIATE VECTOR BACK AROUND FOR THE ILS. I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE WX (ICING WAS MODERATE RIME), HANDLING THE FULL WORKLOAD AND SHOWING NEW COPLT OUR APCH PROCS.
