Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff. Multiple aircraft on frequency; including instructions for taxi to ramp instructions. ATC apparently tried to tell our flight to abort takeoff clearance. Due to heavy congestion and multiple aircraft speaking simultaneously; neither I nor captain heard call from tower. After takeoff tower informed us to call ATC. Tower was unable to control volume of traffic nor operation single frequency. Later in the evening we came back and during our next position and hold tower again made numerous errors clearing us to takeoff the position and hold. Tower is not effectively managing operations and should be admonished accordingly. Frequency congestion. Supervisor oversight for tower operations.
