Narrative:
I had been vectored and given radials for approach to runway 23L at yip, last one being 110 degrees off salen VOR by the dtw approach controller. I was at 3000' and several frequencys had been given. Awaiting the handoff to yip tower and not receiving it as I passed through the ILS 23L approach course. WX was VFR about 5 mi and haze. I did not make visibility with yip. As I passed through the approach course I called approach and advised. Radio use was busy and with no response from approach I returned to my last frequency and was advised I had been NORDO and into metropolitan traffic. Also I was given vectors and a frequency and some dialogue by the controller. Further approach to ypi was uneventful and I phoned the controller as requested. The aircraft had 2 microphone switches as 1 was in process of repair. Possibly I inadvertently used wrong switch. Possibly approach missed my first call. 2 airports close together made time a essence. Possibly approach could have turned me in sooner and handed me off to tower sooner.

Title: LOST COM SITUATION LEADS SMA PLT INTO OTHER ATA.
Narrative: I HAD BEEN VECTORED AND GIVEN RADIALS FOR APCH TO RWY 23L AT YIP, LAST ONE BEING 110 DEGS OFF SALEN VOR BY THE DTW APCH CTLR. I WAS AT 3000' AND SEVERAL FREQS HAD BEEN GIVEN. AWAITING THE HDOF TO YIP TWR AND NOT RECEIVING IT AS I PASSED THROUGH THE ILS 23L APCH COURSE. WX WAS VFR ABOUT 5 MI AND HAZE. I DID NOT MAKE VIS WITH YIP. AS I PASSED THROUGH THE APCH COURSE I CALLED APCH AND ADVISED. RADIO USE WAS BUSY AND WITH NO RESPONSE FROM APCH I RETURNED TO MY LAST FREQ AND WAS ADVISED I HAD BEEN NORDO AND INTO METRO TFC. ALSO I WAS GIVEN VECTORS AND A FREQ AND SOME DIALOGUE BY THE CTLR. FURTHER APCH TO YPI WAS UNEVENTFUL AND I PHONED THE CTLR AS REQUESTED. THE ACFT HAD 2 MIC SWITCHES AS 1 WAS IN PROCESS OF REPAIR. POSSIBLY I INADVERTENTLY USED WRONG SWITCH. POSSIBLY APCH MISSED MY FIRST CALL. 2 ARPTS CLOSE TOGETHER MADE TIME A ESSENCE. POSSIBLY APCH COULD HAVE TURNED ME IN SOONER AND HANDED ME OFF TO TWR SOONER.
