Narrative:
I was acting as the senior captain responsible for the conduct of our flight. As part of our policy (organization) we allow second in commands to situation in left seat on certain flts under the supervision of the PIC. On this leg, the second-in-command was operating the aircraft from the left seat. We started taxiing from the FBO located on the south side of the airport with instructions to taxi to runway 23 and to hold short of runway 27. We both were concerned with complying with this clearance as we both discussed the route and the restrictions. I was looking up our route as we approached runway 27. We stopped behind hold lines that were very worn and difficult to see. Sitting there, I would estimate that we were about 150' from the runway. Ground control testily called to ask us where we were in relation to the hold lines. We informed him that we were behind them. He informed us that we were beyond them and that the set we were behind was not valid. Also stated that an aircraft was forced to go around (sent around by the tower) on account of our location. This was the first that either one of us realized that there were other hold lines in use. Apparently the hold line in use is so far back from the runway as to seem irrelevant to runway 27. All other hold lines are much closer to runway 27 than that hold line. If it is due to the use or installation of an ILS, then a critical hold area should be so anointed.

Title: FLT CREW OF SMT HELD AT HOLD LINES ON TXWY B SHORT OF RWY 27. TWR CTLR ADVISED WRONG LINES AND SENT AN ACFT AROUND.
Narrative: I WAS ACTING AS THE SENIOR CAPT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT OF OUR FLT. AS PART OF OUR POLICY (ORGANIZATION) WE ALLOW SECOND IN COMMANDS TO SIT IN LEFT SEAT ON CERTAIN FLTS UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE PIC. ON THIS LEG, THE SECOND-IN-COMMAND WAS OPERATING THE ACFT FROM THE LEFT SEAT. WE STARTED TAXIING FROM THE FBO LOCATED ON THE S SIDE OF THE ARPT WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 23 AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27. WE BOTH WERE CONCERNED WITH COMPLYING WITH THIS CLRNC AS WE BOTH DISCUSSED THE ROUTE AND THE RESTRICTIONS. I WAS LOOKING UP OUR ROUTE AS WE APCHED RWY 27. WE STOPPED BEHIND HOLD LINES THAT WERE VERY WORN AND DIFFICULT TO SEE. SITTING THERE, I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT WE WERE ABOUT 150' FROM THE RWY. GND CTL TESTILY CALLED TO ASK US WHERE WE WERE IN RELATION TO THE HOLD LINES. WE INFORMED HIM THAT WE WERE BEHIND THEM. HE INFORMED US THAT WE WERE BEYOND THEM AND THAT THE SET WE WERE BEHIND WAS NOT VALID. ALSO STATED THAT AN ACFT WAS FORCED TO GO AROUND (SENT AROUND BY THE TWR) ON ACCOUNT OF OUR LOCATION. THIS WAS THE FIRST THAT EITHER ONE OF US REALIZED THAT THERE WERE OTHER HOLD LINES IN USE. APPARENTLY THE HOLD LINE IN USE IS SO FAR BACK FROM THE RWY AS TO SEEM IRRELEVANT TO RWY 27. ALL OTHER HOLD LINES ARE MUCH CLOSER TO RWY 27 THAN THAT HOLD LINE. IF IT IS DUE TO THE USE OR INSTALLATION OF AN ILS, THEN A CRITICAL HOLD AREA SHOULD BE SO ANOINTED.
