Narrative:
My first flight into den from sheridan, gillette, wy. I was unfamiliar with the location of the airport form the north and when I was told to turn base from a close paralleling 180 degree heading west of the aerodrome, then I was held at 8000' until base to final, and I feel the contributing factors of the time (dusk), very little if any runway lighting, the hazy flight conditions, the PAPI being OTS for runway 18, as well as the final vector for 18 that put me too close to the end of 18 to rollout on final. I was lined up for 17L on short final. I had all departing traffic in sight and they were well above and to the left of my flight path and never posed a conflict. It was evident tower controllers didn't visually have all incoming traffic idented as a corp air arrival was mistaken for me on short final to 18 and complicated the problem for a side-step or go around.

Title: NARRATIVE PREGNANT WITH INFORMATION, BUT APPEARS TO BE A LINE UP WITH THE WRONG RWY.

IT WAS EVIDENT TWR CTLRS DIDN'T VISUALLY HAVE ALL INCOMING TFC IDENTED AS A CORP AIR ARR WAS MISTAKEN FOR ME ON SHORT FINAL TO 18 AND COMPLICATED THE PROB FOR A SIDE-STEP OR GAR.
