Narrative:

After pushback from gate at ewr, ground control cleared us to taxi to runway 4L via outer delta. We were on taxiway rd, just short of the inner taxiway, when I noticed another air carrier medium large transport traveling southbound on the inner taxiway at an extremely high taxi speed. We estimated to be 50-60 mph. I applied the brakes and came to an abrupt stop short of the inner taxiway. At the same time I applied the brakes, the tower told us to give way to the medium large transport. Had we not seen him, I doubt if he could have stopped. To say the least, he was operating in a reckless manner, in my estimation. The F/a's were thrown about in the cabin, but no apparent injuries.
