Narrative:
During takeoff from publication, a thud was heard just to prior to vr (120 KTS). There was a momentary and unsustained yaw. Engine indications, hydraulic pressure and gear retraction were normal. The tower was contacted and asked to check the runway for debris, etc. They reported a tire on the runway at about the point of rotation. The flight was contained to santa ana (orange county). Some 15 mins out this tower was contacted and informed of a possible problem. Safety services were alerted and the passenger briefed. From the report from publication tower, it appeared that a tire had been lost. No fly-by was requested as, if this were so, it would be more apparent from head-on; i.e., on the approach. On short final, orange county tower said it appeared all 4 tires were intact. At the threshold an unidented voice called that the left inner main appeared damaged. T/D was made on the right main, and the aircraft decelerated with reverse and gentle braking. A stop was made on the taxiway to allow the safety services to check for fire or damage. It was found that the outer tread of the tire had disappeared--the remainder was still inflated. Minor damage was caused to T he trailing edge of the wing and inboard engine nacelle. At this time we do not now whether the tire was a recap or not. Preflight at publication (conducted by myself) had shown no potential problem.

MINOR DAMAGE WAS CAUSED TO T HE TRAILING EDGE OF THE WING AND INBOARD ENG NACELLE. AT THIS TIME WE DO NOT NOW WHETHER THE TIRE WAS A RECAP OR NOT. PREFLT AT PUB (CONDUCTED BY MYSELF) HAD SHOWN NO POTENTIAL PROB.
