Narrative:
Approaching dfw area approach control descended our flight to 5000', changed approach controllers. Then assigned heading of 090 degrees for vectors. We inquired which runway to expect and the controller apologized and advised we would be using runway 13R. We continued on 090 degree heading. There was a lot of traffic and I expect some transmission were blocked. I commented to first officer that we were flying through localizer. About that time the controller gave us an immediate right turn to intercept the localizer and descend (to 3000', I think). He seemed surprised that we had not initiated a turn and indicated there was traffic climbing ahead ot 6000'. We indicted that we were surprised they ha let us fly through localizer--we were about to call him when he called us. We indicated that we had not received nor acknowledged a turn or approach clearance. We suspect a transmission blockage. Is this a hearback problem? There were no other discussions/inquiries. We know of no approach or aircraft conflicts. The subsequent approach and landing was otherwise normal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LGT FLIES THROUGH LOC COURSE ON ATC VECTOR HEADING WHILE ATC EXPECTS COURSE INTERCEPT. READBACK HEARBACK PROBLEM.
Narrative: APCHING DFW AREA APCH CTL DSNDED OUR FLT TO 5000', CHANGED APCH CTLRS. THEN ASSIGNED HDG OF 090 DEGS FOR VECTORS. WE INQUIRED WHICH RWY TO EXPECT AND THE CTLR APOLOGIZED AND ADVISED WE WOULD BE USING RWY 13R. WE CONTINUED ON 090 DEG HDG. THERE WAS A LOT OF TFC AND I EXPECT SOME XMISSION WERE BLOCKED. I COMMENTED TO F/O THAT WE WERE FLYING THROUGH LOC. ABOUT THAT TIME THE CTLR GAVE US AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN TO INTERCEPT THE LOC AND DSND (TO 3000', I THINK). HE SEEMED SURPRISED THAT WE HAD NOT INITIATED A TURN AND INDICATED THERE WAS TFC CLBING AHEAD OT 6000'. WE INDICTED THAT WE WERE SURPRISED THEY HA LET US FLY THROUGH LOC--WE WERE ABOUT TO CALL HIM WHEN HE CALLED US. WE INDICATED THAT WE HAD NOT RECEIVED NOR ACKNOWLEDGED A TURN OR APCH CLRNC. WE SUSPECT A XMISSION BLOCKAGE. IS THIS A HEARBACK PROB? THERE WERE NO OTHER DISCUSSIONS/INQUIRIES. WE KNOW OF NO APCH OR ACFT CONFLICTS. THE SUBSEQUENT APCH AND LNDG WAS OTHERWISE NORMAL.
