Narrative:

On flight from columbus, oh, to newark, nj, flight was routine until on descent. The first officer noticed the 'gear door open' light was on. It was night IFR in rain showers for the rest of the flight. We proceeded to accomplish the abnormal procedures for this problem from the aircraft flight manual. We were unable to determine the exact position of the gear doors and proceeded as if one or more were open. The abnormal procedure for this resulted in the gear doors being released of hydraulic pressure and 'flying' until airspeed was slowed down. This procedure resulted in the gear doors contacting the runway on landing on door skids designed for this. The approach and landing were normal with emergency equipment standing by. No emergency was declared. Maintenance met the aircraft and inserted the gear pins. We then taxiied to the gate, maintenance has yet to determine the cause of the light coming on. Minimum damage to gear doors. All normal and abnormal procedures followed.

Title: GEAR DOOR OPEN WARNING LIGHT PROMPTED FLT CREW TO FOLLOW SOP. LANDED WITH GEAR DOORS RELEASED WITH MINIMAL DAMAGE.

Narrative: ON FLT FROM COLUMBUS, OH, TO NEWARK, NJ, FLT WAS ROUTINE UNTIL ON DSNT. THE F/O NOTICED THE 'GEAR DOOR OPEN' LIGHT WAS ON. IT WAS NIGHT IFR IN RAIN SHOWERS FOR THE REST OF THE FLT. WE PROCEEDED TO ACCOMPLISH THE ABNORMAL PROCS FOR THIS PROB FROM THE ACFT FLT MANUAL. WE WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE EXACT POS OF THE GEAR DOORS AND PROCEEDED AS IF ONE OR MORE WERE OPEN. THE ABNORMAL PROC FOR THIS RESULTED IN THE GEAR DOORS BEING RELEASED OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE AND 'FLYING' UNTIL AIRSPD WAS SLOWED DOWN. THIS PROC RESULTED IN THE GEAR DOORS CONTACTING THE RWY ON LNDG ON DOOR SKIDS DESIGNED FOR THIS. THE APCH AND LNDG WERE NORMAL WITH EMER EQUIP STANDING BY. NO EMER WAS DECLARED. MAINT MET THE ACFT AND INSERTED THE GEAR PINS. WE THEN TAXIIED TO THE GATE, MAINT HAS YET TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE LIGHT COMING ON. MINIMUM DAMAGE TO GEAR DOORS. ALL NORMAL AND ABNORMAL PROCS FOLLOWED.
